Mould Growth in Roof Spaces

Condensation & Mould Growth

Here is a bad case of mould growth on the underside of the sarking boards in a loft space.

Make sure you insulate your loft space

The causes of this are inadequate loft insulation, poor ventilation and a defective bathroom extractor. This was allowing warm moist air to vent directly into the loft space which was condensing out onto the sarking boards and creating the mould growth. Its very important to adequately insulate your loft and make sure any extractor vents are tightly fitted and insulated. This will prevent any warm moist air from the living space escaping into the cold loft where it will condense out.
